"Navigare necesse est: Ostia, the harbour of Rome"

In 2002-2003 Italy has managed to underline the importance of the E.U. and to enlighten the fundamental role played by the Socrates Comenius 1 project initiative, by the relevance of the vehicular language and the specific topics chosen.
The understanding and involvement of students was verified through easy debates, group work on the ancient and present port of Rome was programmed and carried out, titles of group activities were chosen and material assembled.
A school exhibition of the final products of the group works focussed on "Water connecting Europe - Navigare necesse est: Ostia, the harbour of Rome" was set up in the Aula Magna of I.I.S. Carlo Urbani High School. A video of the visit to the class exhibition with comments in the vehicular language (English) was shot in 2002/2003. Students training to mini-lectures was started in 2003. Contacts among students of partner nations was satisfactorily begun and carried out with during 2002-2003. Questionnaire Number 1 to check "in itinere" the understanding of the project was given out to pupils in 2003. A school visit to the ancient harbour of Claudius and Traianus was organised to reinforce motivation.
